bike!
after quite a few months, ive finally gotten my act together and asked for some help to put the back wheel on my bike. seems simple, but that back chain got so tangled, it was unreal. i would get a headache just looking at it. but here it is, in all its functional glory - the antique blue bike. sans fenders and basket or course, as i am removing the rust on those and re-spraying them with rust paint, just to send myself over the edge in admiration.
whilst my bike was in pieces, i have been thinking of ways to put a design on the bike. at first, i imaged using a type of flimsy acetate and spray adhesive to create a type of stencil that i could stick on the bike and spray bomb over. then i found a lovely tutorial on the internet that showed how to create a stencil from tape. i figure, if i can purchase a wider-variety of packing tape, and use an exacto knife to cut out the intricate design that i want, that this might be the most plausible solution.
but of course, i should have mentioned that i want to stencil a lace pattern...and that might be easier said than done.
makin' a blanket.
I've begun my very first starblanket, and while I have been pretty successful - I've already run into my share of problems. Here are some images of the in-progress blanket:

Having no pattern to go by, this has been a project of guesswork and make-shift-mathematics. After some quick sketches I decided to go ahead by creating each of the 8 points of the star in long strip rows. AND, I very quickly realized that despite my efforts to move quicker than a snails pace, you probably should measure each small diamond about three times as you are sewing it to ensure the correct placement and alignment when the entire thing gets put together. There really isn't a lot of information specifically about sewing these types of blankets online, and so I will try to post more info as I work through problems when they arise. For now my only suggestion to any prospective starblanket quilter would be to measure, measure, measure!

These are some images that I have recently put together to organize my website: www.suzannemorrissette.com .
I am trying out a new layout that relies much less on text than I had previously used in hopes to distance my work from being one thing or another. This way ceramic work can also functions as installation work but be organized under the same image designation. Whether this becomes confusing for viewers is interesting, and I would prefer this to something simply didactic. All and all, this site needed some big time changes, and I am experimenting with formats to display art. A bit of a curatorial project, so to speak...
